Understanding the FAA Part 107, indoor flying, insurance requirements, and what I need to do.

Overview

In the United States, the FAA does not have any jurisdiction on indoor environments. All rules and regulations are directed towards flying outdoors. Because the intended use of the 360 Drone Booth software is indoors (it has not been tested outdoors), these rules do not apply. Additionally, because the DJI Mini Drones are less than 250g, they bypass typical local regulations, which for the most part, all regulate outdoor flying and mimic the rules of the FAA. Nevertheless, you will need to ensure that you obey all rules and regulations of the state or region you are flying.

To further this conversion, here is a third party article that describes this in more detail: https://www.thedroneu.com/adu-0706-can-film-indoors-without-part-107/

The above article is from a trusted third party source, Drone U. They facilitate FAA TRUST testing and certifications.

So in conclusion, since the 360 Drone Booth software is intended, and required, for indoor use only, FAA requirements are not in play.

Next Steps

We do not require proof of insurance, however as with any event experience, securing appropriate insurance is important. 360 Motion Labs can not stress enough the importance of having the correct insurance.

To obtain your license key, you simply send us a photo (to info@360motionlabs.com) of your Mini 3 Pro with propeller guards installed with a state or country issued license within the photo.

Obtaining insurance is easy…

Although this process can seem a lot, this process is very straight forward and can be completed online in less than 24 hours (or under an hour if you are really quick).

As stated above, since the drone is under 250g you do not need to register your drone to fly, HOWEVER to obtain a drone/UAV liability insurance policy, you must follow these steps:

Step 1:
You will need to take the Recreational UAS Safety Test, a.k.a. the TRUST test (a 30 minute online test): https://trust.pilotinstitute.com (Free).

Once passed (you can’t fail, you can take each section as you can take it as many times as needed), you will earn your TRUST certificate.

Note: Most of the learning here will apply to outdoor flying under FAA regulations, which is good knowledge for safe flying both indoors or outdoors. An example of a regulation that does not apply to the 360 Drone Booth solution are the sections regarding compensation/payment, as again the intended and required use of the 360 Drone Booth software is indoors only.

Step 2:
You will minimally need to register your drone under Recreational Registration here (this is a requirement for purchase a drone/UAV liability insurance policy).

To get started, simply visit: https://faadronezone-access.faa.gov (cost: $5.00).

Typical answers to the general questions can be found here:

The registration process typically takes less than 5 minutes.

Step 3:
Purchase an UAV drone liability insurance policy. There are 3 easy place to purchase a policy:

RVNA: https://www.rvnuccio.com (~$750/year)
REIN (DroneInsurance.com): https://www.droneinsurance.com (~$750/year)
SkyWatch Insurance: https://www.skywatch.ai (~$670/year)

Drone/UAV policy with a minimum liability limit of $1,000,000 and minimum of $5,000 in medical expense payments. These limits are just loose recommendations, you will want to select the correct limits based on your situation. 360ML is not responsible for any insurance policy decisions.
